What is Acceler8DB ?
Acceler8DB is a scaleable client/server database management system designed specifically for Windows and AS/400 systems. Following the DB2/400 model used
on AS/400s, Acceler8DB stores and presents data via physical and logical files. When the AS/400 is the server, all files stored on DB2/400 are accessible by Acceler8DB Client via APPC or TCP/IP. Data can also be stored on stand alone
PCs or on Windows NT Servers accessible by TCP/IP. Acceler8DB is also equipped
with the Acceler8DB Manager to facilitate the administration of database and print files.

Why Compare Acceler8DB to DB2/400 ?
Simply put, the AS/400 is used by more corporations, including Microsoft and Apple, for data processing than any other system. The reason is clear: for business processing, nothing beats the AS/400 database. However, IBM has not extended DB2/400 to any platform other than the AS/400. Now, ASNA has done it with Acceler8DB.

Using Acceler8DB, application developers are deploying robust Client/Server applications for Windows. They enjoy the ease of application development having access to virtually the same database as they have relied upon with the AS/400 without resorting to SQL and ODBC.

ASNA DataGate/400, part of the Acceler8DB family, makes DB2/400 appear as an Acceler8DB server, providing fast, seamless record-level access to DB2/400 from Acceler8DB clients. However, the server or local database being accessed is transparent to ASNA Visual RPG and Caviar, Visual Basic, Java and C++ applications, because Acceler8DB and DataGate/400 provide the same API. Any application program can concurrently and interchangeably access multiple Acceler8DB and DB2/400 databases. Although Acceler8DB is the native database for ASNA Visual RPG and Caviar, it is not language specific. The Database Toolbox for Acceler8DB for Visual Basic, Java, Delphi and C++ is now available for application developers who need fast, record-level database access across multiple platforms.

AS/400 connectivity is supported for TCP/IP and APPC. Under APPC, DataGate/400 operates through any IBM supported routers on Windows 95, 98 and Windows NT.

DataGate/400 retains all AS/400 object authority and object locking. Its Remote Program Call support features automatic program initiation and activation, and allows character, numeric and Boolean parameter data types.

DataGate/400 provides full object control for the AS/400 including: creating files; accessing file definitions; adding, deleting and initializing file members; renaming and copying files.

It provides full access to CL commands and data areas, and it utilizes all AS/400 CPF error messaging. Installation on the AS/400 is simple. DataGate/400 is self-initiating and requires no programming or maintenance on the AS/400 to utilize.
