| Understanding Linear, 2 Dimensional and Matrix Symbologies |
Author: Michael P. Kuhlman Bar codes come in several different languages that are referred to as symbologies. In this presentation symbologies are broken into three categories: Linear, 2 Dimensional and Matrix Codes. Each section reviews the individual symbologies and defines typical applications, its features and characteristics, the encoded character sets, and the data encodation structure. One of the more powerful tools provided in this presentation is a detailed questionnaire that will assist in defining which symbology is best for your application. When developing your data collection system, be sure that you are using the most efficient symbology for your application. It is important that the chosen symbology can be scanned by all participating parties and is commonly accepted by industry organizations. This video training tape begins by reviewing the history of bar codes and then introduces you to the different organizations that are actively involved in setting bar code standards. |
