Basic Constituents gives you direct access to many of the objects in the shell name space. These objects include:

Access to the Windows System Image List

The system image list is a set of images that Windows maintains in order to display the proper bitmap for items within the shell. Basic Constituents provides direct access to this image list. Some of the items contained in the system image list include desktop icons, icons displayed in the start menu and icons displayed in explorer indicating file types

The Basic Constituents System Image List control can be used by itself or attached to the Basic Constituents TreeView and ListView controls to create your own implementation of the Windows Explorer. The Shell Name Space Sample program is an implementation of Explorer using Basic Constituents controls.

Besides 23 constituent controls, there are samples for each control, a manual and help file outlining each of the constituent controls in detail. The manual also provides a brief overview of ActiveX control development.

Basic Constituents also includes the Constituent Control Wizard. This wizard generates much of the source code necessary to develop your ActiveX control using Basic Constituents.
