C/C++, Visual Basic, Delphi and Java
Programmers: This is the high-speed xBase-compatible database
engine!
- Write high performance database applications that are
multi-user compatible with FoxPro, dBASE and Clipper.
- Create anything from a Java applet to a full-blown Windows
application to a simple DOS utility.
- Write scalable applications that can be deployed as
single-user, multi-user or client/server, all without
changing any of your source code.
- Port your applications to Windows, DOS, UNIX, OS/2 and
Macintosh.

Many new features have been added to CodeBase , especially under our
client/server configuration. This section highlights those features and provides
some specific details. Click here for a full description of all the features found in
CodeBase.
Increased Speed
This makes it more feasible from a performance perspective to use the
server's logging capabilities in your applications. Log files can
be used for transaction processing, back up and restore operations, and activity
analysis purposes.
The overall speed of the CodeBase server has also been increased by 5-10% for general operations, providing even
further reason to implement the royalty-free CodeBase server in
your database applications.
Client/Server Security
With a steadily increasing amount of client/server activity being geared towards the Internet and intranets, data
security is becoming a critical issue for a wider range of applications. The new CodeBase server addresses these
issues by providing a complete set of security features,
designed to protect your data from unauthorized access.
The security features of the CodeBase server provide you with the flexibility to implement features in a manner
best suited to your individual needs. The major new components
of CodeBase server security are:
Account Identification
As part of the login/connect process, the CodeBase server now supports both Account Names and
Passwords, helping to identify each client processes that
attempts to log into the server.
Access Privileges
In addition to basic login security, you can further protect your data with account-level file access
privileges. These privileges let you determine which data files an account can access, and what type of
operations (Read, Write, etc.) the account can perform on the specified files. Each account has its own
set of associated privileges that apply to any table opened by
the account.
To make access privileges more flexible, in addition to general account-level privileges, you can also
create table-specific privileges for one or more tables for an individual account. This lets you handle
special cases when an account's general access privileges are not adequate for a specific table or group
of tables.
Internet Firewall
Because account names and passwords can be compromised, the CodeBase server provides an additional
security net, by letting you specify a login IP address restriction for any or all of your accounts. An IP
address restriction lets you reject an attempted login if the IP address of the connecting machine does
not fall within a specified range. So even if an account name and password are compromised, an
unauthorized user can be kept out of your system if their IP address doesn't fall within an expected
range.
The new security features of the CodeBase server can be managed with the new utility program
CodeBase Server Administrator. This application, which can be distributed royalty-free, is designed to
administer many of the new client/server features of CodeBase 6.

Information Reporting
To help you manage your client/server applications ,the CodeBase server can now supply reports on a variety of
information including:
- Server Information -- Provides general information on server resource usage, up-time, number of
users connected and more.
- Account Reports -- Provides details on all current server accounts, including account-level file
privileges and any IP address restrictions.
- Privilege Reports - Provides a list of all individual account/table privileges recognized by the
CodeBase server
- Connection Information -- Provides you with a number of different reports that detail which accounts
are currently connected to the CodeBase server, which tables each account is using and what
table/record locks each account has in place. Useful both for security reasons and when
troubleshooting applications.
All server reports can be accessed easily through CodeBase
Server Administrator.
Very Large Table Support
CodeBase now lets you surpass the standard xBASE limit of one gigabyte per table when using our 32-bit FoxPro
compatible libraries. Depending on the size of your indexes, you can create tables with a theoretical maximum size of
4.2 million terabytes (4,611,686,018,427,387,904 bytes), large enough for virtually any application today or in the
foreseeable future!/
Easier Server Configuration
CodeBase makes it much easier for you and your end-users to configure the CodeBase server, with a new
graphical interface to the CodeBase server's configuration data. Easily control such items as where the
server locates it data files, the mode in which tables are
opened, memory allocation options and much more.
All server configuration options can be accessed through the
CodeBase Server Administrator application.
Table Maintenance
The CodeBase server provides new functionality that allows you to obtain a list of all data files in any directory
accessible to the CodeBase server. Through CodeBase Server Administrator, you can then perform file maintenance
on any of the tables in the list, including reindexing, packing, compressing and more. A great tool for end-users of
your client/server applications!
Updated Compiler Support:
CodeBase includes support for the latest compilers from
Borland and Microsoft, including:
- Borland Builder 3
- Borland C++ 5
- Visual C++ 5.x
- Visual Basic 5
- Delphi 3
Royalty-Free Client/Server
To more accurately reflect the needs of today's developers, CodeBase client/server now
includes a 5-user server that can be distributed royalty-free with all your applications.
This allows you the flexibility to offer end-users both a
standalone and/or client/server solution, without the hassles
of run-time royalties.
If you're developing commercial applications that may require more than 5 simultaneous
connections, Sequiter offers you two choices; you can purchase server upgrades at a discounted
price from Sequiter, and sell these to your customers, or you can let end-users upgrade their
server directly through Sequiter. For more information on server
upgrades, please contact our sales department.
