CommTools is a serial communications library from Magna Carta Software customized for many different host products and operating systems. The family consists of:

Commtools/DLL

Intended for the programmer working under MS Windows. CommTools/DLL can be used with any programming language that allows calls to DLL functions. The package ships with a 32-bit DLL so that you can develop applications for the Win32 APIs.

Visual Basic users will find special support for them. There are several VB examples, including a full-blown terminal program with emulation and file transfer.

Commtools for Visual FoxPro

Visual FoxPro and FoxPro for Windows v2.x programmers will appreciate the integration of CommTools for Visual FoxPro with the FoxPro environment. It ships with a 32-bit FLL for Visual FoxPro versions 5,6 and 7, allowing you to treat CommTools functions just like extensions to the FoxPro language. You can even write a file transfer status routine in FoxPro as a UDF and CommTools will call it during a file transfer to report progress. All documentation is specific to the FoxPro environment and the package comes with many examples.

Commtools Tutorial: Takes you through the process of building a terminal program, adding file transfer and terminal emulation along the way. Other examples show how to answer the phone, use a network modem and transfer files between PCs.
Commtools Technical Reference: Over 200 pages describe each function in detail with examples.
Communications Reference: 70 page background on communications explains terminology.
