InterAccess TelnetD Server contains the industrys most feature complete
TelnetD server for Windows NT.
InterAccess is an internet connectivity package for NT. It contains an Inet daemon
and a Telnet daemon. The InetD is similar to its UNIX counterpart which can start an NT program when a client
connects to a specified port. The TelnetD server runs industry standard telnet protocol and allows any telnet client to log
into an NT machine. Since multiple telnet users can log in simultaneously, an NT machine is turned in to a multi-user
machine. For easy management and configuration, two graphical management applications are provided. The Telnet
Server Manager is provided to remotely manage telnet users logged on to an NT machine. InterAccess Manager is
included in the package to manage programs started by InetD and change the settings of TelnetD Server. InterAccess
runs over TCP/IP using WinSock in the Windows NT 3.51. 4.0 or later environment, and it uses the native security of
Windows NT for user authentication and logon access controls.
InterAccess TelnetD Users
- The products primary use is in the growing internet servers based on Windows NT. NT based servers need to
run WEB, FTP, WAIS, Gopher, DNS and Email/SMTP to complete the server offerings and be at least as
capable as an UNIX server. InterAccess will be of interest to Internet Service Providers who want to setup shop
with NT servers.
- Telnet allows remote access to NT machines via any telnet client. This feature allows system management,
configuration and monitoring to be done remotely. Thus, it can be used as an NT server management tool.
- InterAccess runs in both NT servers and NT Workstations. A third audience for the InterAccess product are the
programmers and users who want to use the remote connectivity and access that TelnetD provides. Just having
the TelnetD server running in their office NT machine, they can telnet into it from home or other locations and run
any of their console mode applications like vi and emacs editors, compilers and linkers, command line dubuggers,
ftp and netstat TCP/IP tools.
- A fourth audience are people who want to use the multi-user capability that Telnet provides. A higher powered
PC (based on Pentium for example) running NT can be interactively used by multiple users who have light-weight
client machines on their desktop.
Features
InetD
- Start any NT programs or services when a client connects to a given TCP or UDP socket.
- Parameters can be passed to the started programs via NT registry.
- Reduces system load by only starting programs when they are needed.
- Provides easy configuration via InterAccess Manager.
- InetD is built as an NT service for running it even when no user is logged on.
- InetD can start TelnetD and other TCP/IP programs and non-TCP/IP programs if they are installed and
configured.
- IP Filtering allows for limiting connections by IP Address
TelnetD
* Items in red are exclusive to the Pragma Systems Servers
- Client side printing through telnet connection
- Console Wrapper Technology that allows any console application to run in a telnet session
- Encrypted/Secure Logon(When used with InterAccess Companion Console Telnet Client)
- Java Telnet Client
- 32Bit Console Telnet Client
- Network drive share cleanup
- Server I/O Handle API Support
- Packet Size option to support for slow devices such as hand held RF devices
- Logon Security based on NT Group Accounts
- Auto logon option
- Separate environment support for each user
- Text and HTML log files for individual user sessions
(allows you to see what the users are doing on your system)
- Telnet access to NT using any telnet client
- Full RFC 854 support
- Color support and full PC keyboard and character set support
- ANSI, Digital VT 100, VT 220, VT 320, VT 420, WYSE 50, WYSE 60 and IBM ASCII terminal support
- Integration with NTs native security to allow a user logon authentication via NTs user account database
- Each remote user runs in their own security context
which allows a user to only access the resources they have
permission from NT
- Support for larger screens than 80x24. Screens can be as
large as what NT console supports (132x128 or
larger)
- Control - C to abort a running program
- Can specify a user shell other than cmd.exe via NT registry.
This allows UNIX like shell or custom applications to
be run when a telnet client logs on.
- Initial directory set to users home directory if it is set in the user account
- An optional file in users home directory can be run to setup each users own environment
- Integration with NTs console subsystem provides telnet users with easy NT cmd shell like features with
up-arrow for last command, command editing and function key support
- The remote users telnet session acts as if they are typing the
commands to a local NT command shell or program
- Can run any program that can be run in and NT machine. Any console
mode 32-bit, 16-bit or DOS applications
can be run. Examples are edit program, vi, emacs, debug, tree, dir,
netstat, net, compiler, linker, ftp and lynx like
programs.
- Multiple users can log in simultaneously
Multiple User Configurations. Allows for you to configure the session environment for every telnet user on the
system.
- Graceful application termination. When a telnet session is
disconnected by any other means than a proper exit.
Your application data can be saved gracefully by sending the appropriate
exit codes to your running application.
Session Management Program
- WIN32 GUI program to manage TelnetD servers and telnet sessions remotely.
- Shows which users are logged onto NT servers via telnet sessions, how long they are on and users machine
name.
- Allows administrators to log out one or more users from a TelnetD server machine.
- Uses native security of NT to restrict access to valid NT administrators.
- An administrator can manage TelnetD servers located throughout the internet or the enterprise from one Win32
machine via TCP/IP.
InterAccess Manager
- One single GUI program does all system configuration for InetD, TelnetD Server and Terminal Server when
installed.
- Manages the list of programs to be started by the Inet daemon.
- Allows graphical add, delete or change functions to be performed on InetD launched programs.
- Socket ports, program path and program arguments are accepted for InetD launched programs.
