Pragma TerminalServer which contains the industrys most feature complete Terminal server for
Windows NT. Pragma TerminalServer extends Windows NT into the world of terminals allowing
various types of terminals to be connected to a
Windows NT machine via COM ports or modems.
Run any console application. You can run text editors, like edit or vi.
Have your custom application be the only thing that runs. Great for RF applications!
It's just like you're on the server. You have full user-context security with NT
handling all security access permissions.
Uses for Pragma TerminalServer
- Multiple terminal connection server. A higher powered PC (based on Pentium for example)
running NT can be interactively used by multiple users who have terminals on their desktop
to simultaneously run a variety of programs.
- Retail Point of Sale. TerminalServer fits well for retail point of sales environments.
Multiple terminals are used in this environment to run character mode applications hosted by
a UNIX machine. With Pragma TerminalServer, NT is the machine delivering POS applications over
any number of terminals. Support of existing applications in NT provides retail POS organizations
a wide choice using Pragma TerminalServer and NT.
- Remote systems managment. Administrators can dial in via Async modems and
login to an NT machine which are not available over telnet.
- Secondary access. If an NT machine GUI becomes unresponsive, terminal
login can be performed over COM port to access the machine. Process status can be
obtained and corrective action taken to remedy the situation. At least the machine
can be reliably shutdown if all else fails.
Features
InetD
- Start any NT programs or services when a client
connects to a given TCP or UDP socket.
- Parameters can be passed to the started programs via NT registry.
- Reduces system load by only starting programs when they are needed.
- Provides easy configuration via InterAccess Manager.
- InetD is built as an NT service for running it even when no user is logged on.
- InetD can start TelnetServer and other TCP/IP programs and non-TCP/IP programs if
they are installed and configured.
- IP Filtering allows for limiting connections by IP
Address
Terminal Server
- Terminal access to NT via COM ports or Async modems are used to auto answer when a remote user dials in.
- Full PC keyboard and character set support.
- ANSI, Digital VT 100, VT 220, VT 320, VT 420, WYSE 50, WYSE 60 and IBM ASCII terminal support.
- Integration with NTs native security to allow a user logon authentication via NTs user account database.
- Each remote user runs in their own security context which allows a user to only access the resources they
have permission from NT.
- Control-C to abort a running program.
- Can specify a user shell other than cmd.exe via InterAccess Manager. This allows
UNIX like shell or custom applications to be run when a terminal client logs on.
- Initial directory set to users home directory if it is set in the user account.
- An optional file in users home directory can be run to setup each users own environment.
- Integration with NTs console subsystem provides terminal users with easy NT cmd shell like
features with up-arrow for last command, command editing and function key support.
- The terminal user sessions act as if they are typing the commands to a local NT command shell or program.
- Can run any character mode or console mode program that can be run in an NT machine.
This includes 32-bit, 16-bit, DOS, 16-bit OS/2 and NT POSIX applications can be run.
Examples are edit program, vi, emacs, debug, tree, dir, netstat, net, compiler, linker,
ftp and lynx like programs.
- Multiple users can connect simultaneously.
Session Management Program
- WIN32 GUI program to manage sessions remotely.
- Shows which users are logged onto NT servers via Pragma server sessions, how long
they are on and users machine name.
- Allows administrators to log out one or more users.
- Uses native security of NT to restrict access to valid NT administrators.
- An administrator can manage Pragma servers located throughout the internet or
the enterprise from one Win32 machine via TCP/IP.
- Manage all Pragma servers, including Pragma TelnetServer, Pragma SecureShell,
and Pragma TerminalServer
InterAccess Manager
- One single GUI program does all system configuration for Pragma TelnetServer, Pragma SecureShell,
Pragma TerminalServer, and InetD when installed.
- Manages the list of programs to be started by InetD
- Allows graphical add, delete or change functions to be performed on InetD launched programs.
- Socket ports, program path and program arguments are accepted for InetD launched programs.

- Intel x86, Pentium and AMD processors are supported
- 10 MB of available hard disk space.
- 2MB of memory is recommended per remote session.
- VT, WYSE, IBM terminals and/or Hayes compatible modem
for modem communication
Hardware needed
Pragma TerminalServer will run on any system able to run Windows NT. Therefore,
all you need is the minimum requirements set by Microsoft. As for how many users
can telnet to a machine at the same time and performance not be degraded, we say
that you need about 2MB per user above the minimum needed for Windows NT.
Here's a guideline to follow:
20 or less users: 600Mhz Pentium with 128MB of RAM
21 to 50 users: 800Mhz Pentium with 256MB RAM
Above 50 Users: 1Ghz Pentium with 512MB RAM
These are based on the current market of new computers. Older machines with as little as a
200Mhz/32 MB machine can handle as many as 16 sessions without a performance degradation.
