COM ComponentsCOM Components are DLL Server (Dynamic Link Libraries), OCX Controls and out-of process ActiveX EXE Servers listed in the Windows Registry. COM (Component Object Model) is the technology provided by Microsoft® for building blocks for Windows applications. Reusable code is wrapped in small Components and ready to be accessed by any other COM-enabled applications. Since the COM registration information is distributed to several areas in the Windows Registry and only some poor COM management tools are available, their maintenance is hard and very time-consuming. COM Wiz provides a complete set of features to control and maintain COM Components through an easy to use interface. Developers and system administrators have special interest in this tab that allows to view and edit the information of each registered COM Component. Some programs leave the system full of such components after normal de-installation. Misconfigured Components, such as with missing files, are marked and can be fixed/removed with a single mouse-click. A Registry editor is integrated in the Registered Components tab to allow direct modification of any component entries. With the Regedit auto-jump the Windows Registry editor can be called to open with the currently selected location within COM Wiz. With the COMWRegSvr shell extension COM Components can be registered, unregistered and viewed in COM Wiz. The shell extension is provided with the right-mouse context menu, integrated in the Windows Explorer. When a Component is being registered, the result can be instantly displayed with COM Wiz automatically. Special features included in the COM Components tab:
UninstCleanShows the list of all installed software applications. Explore any install path and check installation entries. Users who need often to install/reinstall applications can maintain the installed software list and check their Registry entries on this tab. Hidden autostart entries, found in the Windows Registry are also accessible in a familiar manner from this tab. Delete mis-configured Keys, go directly to the installed application path before- and just after uninstalling process etc. No other uninstaller calculates and displays ANY installation path for you ! After a program has been uninstalled COM Wiz informs you whether there some program files still exist and you can jump directly to that location to delete them. Special features included in UninstClean tab:
Services and DevicesDisplays a complete list of all installed Services and Devices and lets directly edit the according Registry entries. A depenency walker for the corresponding system files is included. Modify existing entries, get rid of old ones - directly. Some programs leave the mis-leading Services/Devices information after normal de-installation in the Registry. COM Wiz automatically identifies mis-configured keys and marks them with a red-cross. This means that the referrer file location (stored in the Registry) could not be resolved and it is recommended to delete that component. Special features included in the services / devices tab:
Registered File TypesShows up all registered file types with their referring Registry entries. Fix and maintain any file type and the so called shell/shellx handlers. Context menu handlers – this dialog provides removal of undesired explorer context-menu entries (IE new BMP-document etc.). Special features included in Registered File types tab:
