FoxRunner

The testing and automation tool for Visual FoxPro applications

FoxRunner FoxRunner supports software developers in developing automated tests of their software and in mechanizing frequently repeated tasks. FoxRunner was developed by CAL specifically for Microsoft's Visual FoxPro and is the ideal tool for all software developed with Visual FoxPro 6.0 or higher.

Who needs the FoxRunner?

Developers - for automated tests, regression tests, and multi-user tests. For managing tests, for self testing software and for generation of test data.

Sales - for semi- or fully automated demos

Users - for automating routine jobs, like end-of-day procedures or data analysis

Note: FoxRunner uses Visual FoxPro as scripting and testing language. Expert users should therefore be familiar with Visual FoxPro, yet Master Scripts and test framework of FoxRunner 3 also provide testing capabilities for test engineering people with less in-depth knowledge of FoxPro. Because FoxRunner is integrated into the application under test, access to the source code should be possible as well.

FoxRunner FAQ

Can I use FoxRunner for performance tests?
With FoxRunner you can test multi-user access on a server-based application, and you can simulate this even using a single workstation. Start multiple copies of the application to simulate the "users", then start FoxRunner from within each of those applications, and start the tests. Please note that FoxRunner cannot control external applications. This method is suitable for multi-user tests but obviously would not be suitable for running heavy load tests with thousands of users.

Do my customers require a FoxRunner license to watch my demos?
No, in order to run your scripts your customer will require the Script Runner. As an add-on option CAL offers a run time only version of the Script Runner you can distribute to your customers together with your application without paying any additional royalties.

Is it possible to check field values automatically?
You can store the expected values in a data snapshot. FoxRunner can then automatically compare the result of a test with the data snapshot and report differences.

Is the VFP debug mode available when I create a script?
Here are some examples how you can activate the debug mode when creating a script: In order to use the Debug Output Window in the VFP Frame, set the environment combo box in Tools -> Options -> Debug to "FoxPro Frame" (and maybe also "Set as default"). This provides you with new items in the tools menu. Select "Output Window". The debug output window will appear on the VFP desktop. Now when you start a script all executed script lines and all error messages of the script will appear in the Debug Output Window. If you don't want to have the debug output window on your desktop, you can set Tools -> Options -> Debug Environment to "Debug Frame". The disadvantage is that you now need to toggle between the VFP window and the Debug window. To activate/deactivate script debugging include/deactivate the line below in your script. activate window "Debug Output"
