Edit Videos Using a Source and Program Metaphor

Adobe Premiere features a new Monitor window that closely resembles the monitors in a conventional editing bay - placing tools at your fingertips for editing clips and inserting them on the Timeline. View your original clips in the Source window, and then precisely mark your edit points. Quickly insert them at the edit line on the Timeline, or even overlay footage that's already there. Then play back your edited program in the Program window.

The Monitor window supports industry-standard shortcuts for efficient editing. It lets you lift or extract footage from an edited sequence, or perform 3-point edits with professional ease. And it easily switches to Trim Mode to let you adjust clips frame-by-frame in relation to each other.

Premiere also works as an offline editor for the most demanding broadcast video workflows. You can produce a rough cut of your movie in Premiere, and then export an optimized Edit Decision List (EDL) for efficient online editing.

Collapse a Timeline Track for Single-Track Editing

The Timeline in Adobe Premiere lets you work the way you want to get your job done. You can add up to 99 audio and 99 video tracks to the Timeline. Then assemble video on expanded tracks, or collapse those tracks for a less cluttered, more comfortable work environment. As you add tracks, name them for easy identification. Then target a track from the Monitor window and use keyboard shortcuts to insert clips on it.

To check a sequence in a rendered movie without outputting the whole piece, designate certain tracks as hidden -- they'll appear on the Timeline but not in your rendered movie. Or reduce on-screen clutter by making tracks shy, so they appear in the final rendered movie but not on the Timeline. You can even lock tracks to protect them against accidental changes. The Timeline also features tools that let you quickly select a single clip, multiple clips on a track, and multiple tracks of clips, or perform rolling, rippling, and slip-and-slide edits.

Add professional text rolls and crawls easily

Adobe Premiere makes it simple to create high-impact text titles that roll on screen from the top or bottom or crawl on from the side. You simply open the new Title window and enter your text. You then have character-by-character control over font, size, color, orientation, and other attributes (runs of style), so you can give your titles the appropriate look and feel. You can also import a clip to use as a reference for positioning the title text.

Runs of style aren't the only titling controls you get. It's also easy to make text transparent, specify precise ease-in or ease-out points for the title, or create a mask that lets your title appear and disappear in a specific location. At any time, you can preview how your title looks directly in the Title window. Then, when you add the title to your program, you can -- if you want -- apply video keying to superimpose the title on a clip.
