R&R; Report Works Description

Endusers, developers, consultants and IS staff can develop reports quickly and reliably, thus responding better to customer needs and at a much lower cost. Developers and IS staff can also tailor R&R; ReportWorks to their users, so that they can create and run their own reports.

Business users can access databases directly without programming, with the ease-of-use of plain English queries and menus, and in the case of R&R; ReportWorks for Windows, the friendly and familiar Microsoft Office user interface. Review the report information on screen, printed, and exported via MAPI to other users, or via HTML for publication on the Web. Database information can be selected, analyzed, summarized and presented in a variety of ways - resulting in highly polished reports produced on time, with minimal effort!

Each R&R; ReportWorks license will now include both xBase and SQL Report Designer licenses, plus the rights to distribute runtime components for either or both. In effect, each R&R; V10+ is an R&R; Data Warehouse with the updated features from V10.

All utility programs Report Librariantm, Rapid Runnertm and Data Dictionary Editor apply to both Report Designer editions and combine the entries from both. (In V9, these programs were entirely separate.) Librarian will list ALL xBase and SQL reports, and launch using that applicable report designer. Create a Rapid Runner report batch that includes both xBase and SQL runtime reports. DDE catalogs table/fields from both xBase and SQL data sources.

This decision greatly simplifies the selection of the R&R; product since there is now only one edition, and you can now use R&R; with ALL of your data!! And, now R&R; can report across all of your data, no matter what system it comes from.

Saving of MAPI and E-Mail Bursting Options
Upon request of our loyal users, we now allow you to save the settings for MAPI and E-Mail Bursting Options with the report. To insure that the MAPI or Bursting does not occur unless you want it to, you just have to click the Send via MAPI button in the export. Please use with care!

Dotted and Dashed Lines
Lines and boxes now have an additional option to change the line style, allowing various pens for dotted and dashed lines. Enjoy them, but please don't go overboard!

ParameteRR driven scope values (xBase Designer only)
Speed report processing by selecting the starting and ending values for the report based on a ParameteRRtm value. Using the master table scope instructs R&R; to read and process just a portion of the master table, instead of the entire thing. This extends the capabilities of ParameteRRs, which were a very popular feature added in V9.

Report Preview Rerun
We have added a new option from the Report Preview window for both runtime applications and Report Designer. With a single-click the user can regenerate the report, with ParameteRR prompts if applicable. No need to return to the report designer an application's runtime report launch. For example, you can have ParameteRRs to hide report details, sort the report a different way, apply new filtering values modify any R&R; report function!

System User Defined Function (UDF) File
Hey Developers! Do you want to send a standard UDF file but still want your user base to be able to define their own? Now R&R; will search TWO separate UDF files (RR.UDF and SYS.UDF) to locate available functions. Users continue to update RR.UDF as before, while you can maintain and distribute SYS.UDF.

R&R; Report Works Usability Enhancements

At key points, you can now sort field lists by table, alphabetically, type (field, calc, total, etc.), and select a field by name with progressive typing. The field list automatically adjusts based on these selections to display the field's table alias.

Redesigned Selection Rule Dialog
We have added a series of updated prompts make it easier to specify the values for selecting records. You no longer need to put quotes around character entries or curly braces around dates, and in-the-range and in-the-list options will present a series of entry boxes. Entries are validated for data type automatically, so no more complicated syntax to learn.

These enhancements apply to both Report Designer and runtime, making this potentially complex part of any report simpler to learn and understand.

Drag/Drop Calcs / ParameteRRs / Totals from Dialogs
With this new feature, you can create a new calculated, ParameteRR or total and \immediately drag/drop into the layout. This \saves several clicks and makes it simple to define a series of calcs or totals and quickly place them in the layout!

Export to Excel Format
R&R; will now export directly to Microsoft Excel format (.xls) for the worksheet export option. Result Set Browser will also export to Excel.

Additional Calc Field Definition Options
Do you need a calculated field for joining tables, but haven't defined it yet? With a new Calc button on the Edit Relation table join dialog (xBase Report Designer only), you can define it on-the-fly. A similar box has been added to the line properties to allow definition on-the-fly for a line logic control field (xBase and SQL Report Designers).

ParameteRR Timeout
This new feature allows for scheduling of reports that contain ParameteRRs so that R&R; will not stop and wait forever for input. Specify the values beforehand (or use RIPARAM values in Rapid Runner) and use the same report for unattended production and production on demand.

Right-click Field Totaling
Point to any field in the layout, right-click and see the new option to generate a total from that field. There's also an option to view/edit the dictionary settings.

There are many more enhancements that apply to Report Designer, Runtime, Report Librarian and Rapid Runner.
