WP Form & Report

Create and Print Forms and Reports

WP Form & Report WP Form & Report is a Delphi component for creating and printing forms and reports. WP Form & Report contains a designer component which can be used in your own programs. During development the main consideration was that the design of the masks is as simple and intuitive as possible.

WP Form & Report consists of a very user-friendly graphic program which offers the following features, among others, many of which have never before been available in a Delphi form editor:

  • Texts can be edited 'in place', i.e. right where they are without having to open a dialog box
  • Several objects can be marked simultaneously
  • Texts can be right or left justified, centered or justified. This is true for both normal 'ANSI' texts, as well as for RTF texts (in connection with WPTools!)
  • Images can be inserted from the clipboard (BMP and WMF formats) or inserted as a link from a file
  • Forms can consist of multiple pages and it is possible to switch from page to page
  • Objects which are to appear on every page can be placed on a 'MasterPage'
  • Texts which don't fit in one box can be continued in another
  • Zoom functions smoothly from 10% to 500%
  • A grid (with automatic alignment) can be switched on and off
  • Horizontal and vertical rulers can be switched on and off
  • A simple routine makes it possible to read out objects in a structured form, for example, in order to display a structure in TTreeView
  • The following graphic objects can be created: text, graphic text, squares and rectangles, circles, arrows, lines, tables and images
  • All objects can be rotated by 90 degree intervals
  • Object Inspector let the user change all properties of the objects
  • Multilanguage support due to extensive usage of string resources

WP Form & Report was developed from scratch and was consciously kept to a minimum (Delphi 3 Form with its main components results in an EXE with approx. 320KB). Support for JPG files (only for Delphi 3 and 4), as well as for RTF texts (requires WPTools V2.2) can be additionally compiled as an option.

All graphic objects can be assigned a name. Using the names the contents of a database can be inserted via an event , for example. You can either create this event yourself and/or you can use the data source, which will do this for you automatically.

Thus, the component is also able to produce reports. For this purpose there is a certain graphic object known as the 'Report Area', which tabularly duplicates a certain group of objects. Data is assigned to these duplicate objects when the report is generated.

By controlling the events it is also possible to create reports in which several pages are repeated. Example: The form consists of 3 pages. The first and the last pages should always be printed. However, page 2 should only be printed if necessary however, in certain cases it should be printed more than once, for example if there is more data than fits on a single page.

View Reports During Editing

The ReportArea facilitates the creation of reports by allowing users to see how the report will look after it is generated during editing. Although the concept of the 'ReportArea' is somewhat less versatile than the bands used in standard report generators, this is acceptable in view of the increased intuitivity. Since the ReportAreas can also be shifted horizontally it is possible to create formats that would be difficult to realize with bands.

But WP Form & Report can do even more: text fields can be switched to be 'editable'. In a special mode (FormCompletionMode) an input box is displayed for each of these text boxes. The user can enter data into this input box. Using the name assigned the new contents of the input box can be read out, for example, in order to save the text in a data base or to use it for calculations.
