Tax Rates For the entire U.S., Its Territories, and Canada
State, county, city, and all local taxing jurisdictions are covered. Local jurisdictions include school and water districts, rapid transit area, police jurisdictions, etc.

ZIP Codes
Tax information is mapped to ZIP code. All U.S. Postal Service ZIP codes, with their associated states, counties, and cities are included.

Rate Overrides
In many instances counties, cities, or local taxing jurisdictions override the state rate, or each other's rate.

Maximum Taxes
Some jurisdictions limit taxable sales amounts or actual tax amounts.

Split Rates
Some jurisdictions split their tax rates, imposing different rates below and above a given dollar amount.

Prior Rates
All prior rates, through January 1, 1994, are supplied.

Effective Dates
The dates on which current and prior rates became effective.

Filing Codes

Federal Information Processing Code (FIPS) that uniquely identifies each county in the U.S.

Tax Administration
County, city, and local taxes can be administered at their own government level, or at a level above them, i.e., county taxes can be administered by the county, or by the state.

ZIP + 4 to County Cross Reference
The first 2 digits of the ZIP + 4 extension never cross county, and can therefore be used to determine county, in case a ZIP code crosses counties. This information is sold as an add-on, called ZIPsales™ ZIP + 4.

Bracket Schedules
Each state uses a unique rounding method when calculating taxes, creating the need for bracket schedules. This is especially true in point of sale systems involving fractions of a dollar. This information is sold as an add-on, called ZIPsales™ Schedule.

ASCII Format
The database is provided in ASCII format. This format is usable on any platform, and facilitates importing the data into any system.

Internet Downloads
Monthly updates can be downloaded directly from the Internet.

Changes
Each monthly update includes transaction files showing changed records, as well as a complete new set of data. Prices are for a one-year renewable contract.
