Since data is migrated to on-line secondary storage, it remains easily accessible to users. The small placeholder file left behind on the original volume allows users to retrieve files easily and transparently. The migrated files appear to the user as though they have not moved at all. Storage Migrator is a multi-tasking, multi-threaded system and can respond to multiple recall requests at once. Users can also retrieve data at the same time that other files are being migrated to secondary storage. In addition, Storage Migrator saves the time and effort of going back through past backup sets to find files for users.

Reduce storage costs
Using criteria set by the administrator, Storage Migrator monitors the space available on the managed servers. When a disc approaches full capacity, Storage Migrator automatically moves inactive files (as defined by the administrator), to a more cost-effective storage medium, freeing up valuable hard disc space.

Reduce back-up time
Storage Migrator complements VERITAS Backup Exec and NetBackup by significantly reducing the time you spend backing up your company�s data. When Storage Migrator migrates a file to secondary storage it leaves behind a small placeholder file. While HSM products do not replace the need for primary storage backup, that backup and restore process is substantially faster since the placeholder files are much smaller than the actual file contents being backed up daily.

By automatically moving files to secondary storage when a disc fills to a preset level, Storage Migrator eliminates "Out of Disc Space" messages.
